CGPA to Percentage: Formulas for 10, 4 and 5 Point Scales

Many applications, especially for jobs and universities abroad, ask for a percentage instead of CGPA. The right formula depends on your grading scale.

10-point scale

The common formula is: Percentage = CGPA x 9.5. For example, a CGPA of 8.2 equals 8.2 x 9.5 = 77.9%.

4.0 scale

Percentage = (CGPA / 4) x 100. A CGPA of 3.5 equals 87.5%.

5.0 scale

Percentage = (CGPA / 5) x 100. A CGPA of 4.2 equals 84%.

Percentage to CGPA

Reverse the formula. On a 10-point scale, divide the percentage by 9.5, so 78% is about 8.21 CGPA.

Important note

These are approximate conversions. Some universities publish their own formula, and others use a conversion table. Always check the official rule of your university or the institution you are applying to.
